Insoles
An orthotic insole is a shoe insert with a strong supportive shell. The orthotic shell typically cups the heel and extends toward the toes, ending just behind the ball of the foot, known by medical professionals as the "metatarsal heads." The orthotic provides support to the main joint in the foot: the Subtalar Joint. The bone known as the Talus is essentially the "keystone" in the arch of the foot. When this joint becomes weak, the critical arch in the foot begins to collapse. That is where an orthotic insole can make a big difference. Improper footwear, especially when worn for long periods in stressful conditions can cause damage to the bone structures and ligaments of the feet, especially if the subtalar joint is allowed to subluxate, or hyperextend. The word "orthotic" implies some type of brace. By bracing the subtalar joint with an orthotic insole, one can extend the health of the foot by maintaining this important arch. The orthotic insole helps to align the foot properly while walking and running so the weight of the body is transferred most effectively though the structures of the lower extremity. Finding the correct orthotic insole for you requires considering a variety of factors. What is your shoe size and weight? What types of activities are you participating in? What types of shoes will this device be required to fit and function within? KLM has orthotic insoles especially designed for everything from high heels and boots, to diabetic tennis shoes.
